“When I become an expert, I’ll begin.”

I have always struggled with being a novice. I did not want to learn to ride a bicycle - I just wanted to get on an ride. I didn’t want to practice playing piano in elementary school - I just wanted to play music that sounded good. I hesitated to go to kindergarten and again to first then second grades. Always wanting to see around the corner first and know that it will be good before I would try. It has not worked out that way.

“Don’t let the perfect get in the way of the good,” Voltaire said. I have found myself in this same trap regarding writing and sharing my thoughts on this blog. I haven’t written recently due to good life changes I’ve made, but I have also hesitated, waiting until I get better at it, without actually practicing it so that I get better at it. Just like waiting to get in shape before changing my diet. I’m not recommending this. To be transparent, I am new at blogging, designing a web space, building a business, and creating digital content to share. I’m more of a paper, scissors and colored pencils kind of person. As I begin with the end in mind, I see how far it might be and become aware of what I don’t know - it slows me down.

It’s all about mindset - aha! Mindset is my territory. This is exactly what I practice and teach others - yes! I do know how to

  • take one step at a time,

  • let it be without judging it,

  • acknowledge that we are always a work in progress - what Wayne Dyer called “a master practicing.”

In her book, Finding Your Way in a Wild New World, Martha Beck points out that it takes 10,000 hours for mastery:

  • 6 hours a day for 5 years

  • 3 hours a day for 10 years

  • 1 1/2 hours a day for 20 years

  • 12 hours a day for 2 1/2 years

I have put in a ton of hours for many years to learn and teach well-being and authentic living. I only need to practice what I know. I also have expertise in worrying, trying to be what others wanted me to be, judging myself and others, being afraid to speak up and take up the space I’m in. I can tell you the path to our highest well-being and living as our truest selves is the best deal around.

I am a new voice in the digital world, and I am still figuring out what SEO means, but I have come to realize that this space is mainly for my own spiritual use. It keeps me aware of where I’m growing and stretching and helps me to think about the things that truly matter in this life school. It helps me to be present with patients in my practice when I am humbled by the courage it takes to change. We teach what we most need to learn. So, I will keep designing the e-course until it feels right, and I am going to keep showing up to the page and sharing my journey, warts and all.

I thank you for being here :)
